Mission, Vision, Values

Our Mission

To conduct interdisciplinary and collaborative, equity-driven research that identifies the real health needs of equity-deserving populations living with chronic illness, and to apply innovative, person-centered, and action-oriented solutions—including emerging technologies, advocacy, and policy mobilization—to address pressing healthcare challenges.

Our Vision

We envision a just and inclusive healthcare system shaped by the voices and experiences of those most impacted by health inequities—where research collaboration and person-centered approaches lead to sustainable, meaningful solutions.

To advance this vision, EQUIP@Action strives to be a leading hub for innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and policy advocacy that improves health, well-being, and quality of care while promoting health equity locally and globally.

Our Core Values

Equity & Inclusion

We center equity-deserving voices and lived experiences at every stage of research. By prioritizing inclusion, we co-create just, person-centered responses to complex healthcare challenges.

Collaboration

We foster meaningful partnerships—locally, nationally, and internationally—that support co-created knowledge and collective impact. Our work draws on interdisciplinary expertise across the social sciences, humanities, and health disciplines, and is grounded in critical social theory, symbolic interactionism, and narrative inquiry. By integrating diverse perspectives and ways of knowing, we address the complexity of health inequities with relevance and respect.

Empowerment

We amplify the voices of individuals and communities affected by chronic illness and healthcare inequities, ensuring their insights shape the research that informs care practices, systems, and policy.

Innovation

We embrace creative, participatory, and technology-enhanced methodologies to explore how care is experienced, negotiated, and transformed. Using approaches such as digital storytelling and artificial intelligence, we generate evidence that drives change and sparks new directions in equity-oriented health research.

Advocacy & Impact

We mobilize research into advocacy and action to improve access, influence policy, and transform systems. Our work is guided by an expanded vision of the Quadruple Aim: enhancing person-centered care, improving population health, supporting providers, promoting sustainability—and advancing equity through knowledge mobilization and policy engagement.
