Strengthening International Research Collaborations: EQUIP@Action Visits Portugal – October 8, 2026
Dr. Idevania Costa and nurse Lise Lozier recently visited Portugal as part of an international research partnership initiative supported by Lakehead University’s Vice-President, Research and Innovation (VPRI) program.
The visit was supported through the project Bridging Borders and Designing Futures: A Participatory Canadian-European Partnership for Health Equity, which aims to strengthen international research connections and expand opportunities for collaboration through the EQUIP@Action Research Hub.
During their visit, Dr. Costa and Lozier delivered presentations at the Catholic University of Portugal in Porto and the School of Nursing at the University of Lisbon. These engagements provided opportunities to exchange knowledge, connect with international colleagues, and explore shared research interests in health equity.
A significant outcome of the visit was the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Lakehead University and the University of Lisbon. The agreement creates opportunities for continued collaboration, with particular interest in strengthening connections between the Centre for Research, Innovation and Development in Nursing at the University of Lisbon and the EQUIP@Action Research Hub at Lakehead University.
The partnership will support ongoing research collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of future joint initiatives, further expanding EQUIP@Action’s international research network.
Dr. Ide Costa Receives 2025 Lakehead Research Excellence Award
Dr. Ide Costa was awarded the Lakehead Research Excellence Award (2025) in the Social Sciences & Humanity category during Lakehead University’s Research and Innovation Week, held on February 27, 2025. This award recognizes Dr. Costa’s outstanding contributions to community-engaged research and knowledge mobilization in the field of health equity and action-oriented research.
